Post-Doctoral Position: In Advanced Fluid-Rock Interactions
Qatar University, Doha, Qatar
Highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researchers are invited to apply for a 2-year post-doctoral position at Qatar University-College of Engineering. The successful candidate should have a strong expertise in one or more of the following areas: (1) Petrophysical properties, hydrodynamics, and geochemical reactions of fluid/rock systems (e.g., H2-brine-rock, CO2-brine-rock systems), (2) Design and development of microfluidic setups for dynamics multiphase injections under HPHT, (3) Digital rock physics and chemistry: conducting simulation of reactive flow in porous media and geological formations using methods like pore-network modeling, direct numerical simulation, CFD, and lattice Boltzmann method, (4) Synchrotron X-ray computed tomography or related imaging techniques with strong image analysis and algorithm development skills, (5) Applications of Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) for data-driven modeling, prediction, and optimization for porous media research.
Qualifications and achievements:
The successful candidate should a proven research record in one or more of these areas and a strong commitment to academic excellence and innovation. The key qualifications and requirements include:
• A PhD degree in Civil/Environmental engineering, Earth sciences, Chemical or Petroleum engineering or a related field.
• Strong skills in programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++) and relevant simulation software (e.g., COMSOL,OpenFOAM).
• Experience in interdisciplinary research and integrating experimental and computational methods.
• Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) or expertise in handling big data for large-scale simulations.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, be adept at working independently and collaboratively, be well-versed in oral and written communication of their results and have a solid publication record.
• Recognized scholarly output in reputable journals in his/her field.
• Evidence of writing grant applications.
Obligations of the Candidates:
• Establish research collaboration with faculty members at Qatar University (QU).
• Publishing of several high-quality peer reviewed papers, during the timeframe of his/her stay at QU, from collaborative research at QU.
• Prepare and submit proposals for acquiring national and international funding.
• Act as a mentor for QU junior researchers and students by teaching them new techniques and training them on writing research manuscripts and funding applications.
• Participate in co-supervision of graduate students at QU.
• Collaboration with QU researchers to file patents and in the transfer of technology to serve development in Qatar, if applicable.
