Job Description
The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy has two full-time openings for research fellows in its Pharmacokinetics and Mass Spectrometry Core Facility (PKMS, www.pkcore.org). In this position, the candidates will learn strategies and techniques for LC-MS analysis, drug optimization and lead drug candidate selection, pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism, clinical sample analysis and clinical pharmacokinetics, and mass spectrometry imaging of small molecules, endogenous metabolites, lipids, and proteins on tissue sections.
The successful candidate will independently perform the following research studies:
• LC-MS bioanalysis method development, validation, and sample analysis for clinical studies, which focus on a phase 1 single-dose study to evaluate the pharmacokinetic and local GI drug release/dissolution of a new drug formulation.
• Metabolite identification using LC-MS/MS in microsomal incubation and in vivo biological matrix.
• Mass spectrometry imaging of small molecules from tissue samples.
• Quantitative LC-MS analysis of compounds in a biological matrix of preclinical samples.
• Lead optimization, in vitro preclinical studies, and clinical pharmacokinetic analysis.
• In vivo animal PK study samples analysis by working with the animal team.
• Targeted metabolomics studies for routine quantitation of well-characterized metabolites, or untargeted metabolomics to discover biomarkers.
• Independent preparation of study reports.
Required Qualifications:
• PhD degree in analytical chemistry, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, and related fields.
• LC-MS skills, knowledge, and experience for small or large molecules are required.
• The candidate should be a good team player with strong oral and written communication skills.
Desired Qualifications:
• Knowledge and experience in metabolite identification and pharmacokinetics are preferred.
• Knowledge and experience in high-resolution mass spectrometry is preferred.
• Knowledge and experience in mass spectrometry imaging with MALDI is a plus.
• Ability to work closely with others in a small team setting.
