Job Description
A postdoctoral associate (NIH payscale + benefits) is available in research related with multiple sclerosis at the laboratory of Dr. Wensheng Lin in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus. The major focus of the laboratory is to understand the mechanisms of demyelination, remyelination and neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis and to develop therapeutic strategies that preserve myelin and axons in this disease. We generate sophisticated genetic mouse models that allow for inactivation or activation of genes of interest specifically in oligodendrocytes or neurons, and then exploit these mouse models to determine the roles of these genes in oligodendrocytes or neurons in mouse models of multiple sclerosis and their underlying mechanisms. Besides genetic mouse models and primary oligodendrocyte cultures, various neuropathological, behavioral, biochemical and molecular approaches, including RNA sequencing and proteomic analysis, will be used. The successful candidates must be self-motivated scientists and have a PhD degree in the areas of neuroscience, molecular biology, or immunology. Basic skills in molecular biology, cell cultures, and immunohistochemistry are required. Experience in myelin disorders or experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis is a plus. Please send application with CV, publication list and contact information of three references to: Wensheng Lin, Institute for Translational Neuroscience, University of Minnesota, 2101 6th Street SE, WMBB 4-140, Minneapolis, MN 55455, or by email: [email protected]. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.
