What We are Looking For:
Baylor University is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the EvoGenOMICS team supporting the efforts of the Giassetti Lab within the Department of Biology. The primary focus of the research will be centered on multi-omics integration, the generation of gene-edited animals, and the biology of gametes and preimplantation embryos, focusing on the phylogenetic multi-omics core of fertility and its association with animal developmental biology.
Education & Experience
The ideal candidate should have lab experience working in diverse teams, mouse husbandry and manipulation, sterile techniques, cell culture, and microscopy, emphasizing micromanipulation. There may be fieldwork and national and international traveling opportunities, but these are optional for this position.
Required Qualifications
• Ph.D. degree with major courses in molecular biology, cell biology, and embryology
• Strong background in mammalian gamete, preimplantation embryo, and pluripotent stem cell biology
• Excellent communication skills
• First-author publications on related topics in peer-reviewed journals
Preferred Qualifications
• Degree in Developmental/Stem Cell Biology
• Hands-on experience in gamete and embryo micromanipulations, stem cell culture, and next-gen sequencing is highly desirable
There may be fieldwork and national and international traveling opportunities, but these are optional for this position.
The embryology experiments will require intermittent coverage outside of the typical workday. This will include late night and early morning hours (12 am-6 am). Flexibility and professionalism at these hours are vital.
This is a one-year assignment with the possibility of extension depending on funding, performance, and mutual agreement. Preferred start date is August 1st 2024.
What You Will Do:
The postdoctoral researcher will be a project leader in the EvoGenOMICS team. This research group is under the supervision of Principal Investigator Dr. Mariana Ianello Giassetti (http://www.giassettilab.com). The position requires effective communication with high-level internal and external personnel while maintaining accuracy and efficiency. The overall objective of this role is to support the mission of the Department of Biology at Baylor University, healing the world by demonstrating reliability, productivity, professionalism, accuracy, timeliness, problem-solving skills, a strong ethical understanding of our complex scientific focus, as well as compassion and kindness when interacting with others.
The selected candidate will be expected to:
• Independently conduct technical laboratory research to assess mammalian gametes, embryos, and stem cells.
• Maintain records and laboratory analyses
• Manage and maintain detailed animal records and all research-related information
• Collect and analyze scientific data
• Prepare reports containing analytical, descriptive, and evaluative content to be submitted for publication or contribution to grant applications, progress reports, presentations at national and international meetings, etc.
• Present research findings to fellow investigators and collaborative scientists; attend professional meetings.
• Contribute to grant applications and progress reports.
• Supervise and mentor laboratory researchers, graduate and undergraduate researchers.
