Job Description
We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position within the AMO Physics group in our Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division (CSE). We study fundamental x-ray and optical interactions with atoms and molecules in gases, clusters, and solutions, laying foundations for applications of interest to the Department of Energy.
Develop instrumentation and experimental protocols at synchrotron, Argonne ultrafast laser and/or free-electron laser facilities; provide instrumentation setup and testing; perform data acquisition and interpretation; develop data analysis routines, journal publications. Interact with and perform collaborative research; remain knowledgeable of progress in relevant fields of research.
Position Requirements
Considerable knowledge and experience in ultrafast x-ray science; ultrafast laser, free-electron laser or synchrotron sources and associated instrumentation and methods; molecular, cluster, or liquid-jet systems; transient absorption, Ion and/or electron spectroscopy; coincidence techniques, serial x-ray crystallographic methods; development of data analysis routines
Good skill in conceiving and implementing experimental methods, planning and conducting experimental procedures, and analyzing and interpreting measurements
Good ability to communicate scientific information orally and in written reports and publications
Able to work independently on a daily basis
Able to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary research group
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a Ph.D. in physics, chemical physics, physical chemistry or optics with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent
