Job Description
The Applied Materials Division is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee - Materials Science for developing and conducting independent research in advanced materials characterization at the Advanced Photon Source, using high-energy diffraction, tomography, and small angle scattering, etc,. techniques.Performs collaborative research with internal and external scientists, including planning, designing, and executing beam line experiments.Develops novel concepts and algorithms for data collection, reduction, and analysis.Periodically, conduct microstructural and mechanical characterizations on the materials being investigated. Reports relevant results in an appropriate form, with an emphasis on scientific journals.
Position Requirements
A recent (0-2 years) Ph.D. Degree in Materials Science/Metallurgy or related field.
Knowledge of x-ray physics and optics, synchrotron radiation and detectors.
Experience with advanced characterizations, including XRD, SEM, TEM, EDAX, strength, fracture/fatigue properties.
Skills and organization in data processing, evaluation, and interpretation.
Ability to present reports at meetings or conferences and prepare manuscripts for publication.
Skilled oral and written communication skills at all levels of the organization.
Ability to work in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience of working at synchrotron beamline.
Software skills for high level programming (Matlab, Python, etc.) and data visualization.
