Bidder Eligibility: This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. Employees must remain in their current position for one year before applying for a new position, with the exception of student interns. Application of this requirement will not supersede collective bargaining agreements. What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a creative and mission-focused Postdoctoral Appointee to join our multidisciplinary team! We are looking for a candidate that is passionate about applying economic analyses to improve and facilitate our understanding of energy security, environmental sustainability, and the resilience of our nation’s critical infrastructure. The successful candidate will assume a key role within our project teams to produce econometrics models integrating newly applied knowledge of energy systems, climate information, regulatory framework understanding, and environmental valuation. Due to the nature of the work, it is preferred that the selected applicant be able to work onsite, however, the selected applicant can be a remote worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia (Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required), or work in a hybrid capacity (the selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary). On any given day, you may be called on to: + Perform economic analyses to conduct cost benefit analysis of energy-decarbonization projects + Utilize optimization techniques + Publish original research in top-tier journals and conference proceedings + Deliver results and report findings to co-workers and customers + Develop and pursue new opportunities in areas that support Sandia mission activities Qualifications We Require: + PhD in Applied Economics, Economics, or related area of study + Proficiency with one or more of following computer languages (PYTHON, R, MATLAB, C/C++, SQL, ArcGIS) + Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Strong publication record proven through journal and conference publications in the fields of energy/environmental economics + Ability to work across subject areas, and tackle problems in a highly collaborative environment + Strong communication and interpersonal skills as needed to work successfully in a team environment + Experience building positive relationships with students, internal and external customers, and laboratory technical staff + Experience with spatial analysis using ArcGIS and development of tools using Python and ArcGIS About Our Team: Our multidisciplinary systems research and analysis team aims to improve resilience and reliability of our nation’s critical infrastructure at the nexus of energy-water-climate dynamics. In addition to advancing the science of impacts and hazard analysis, our team supports decision-making within complex systems. Projects are funded by internal sponsors as well as multiple external agencies including the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. Sandia serves an important role in the energy water security for the nation through partnerships with industry, academia, and other National Laboratories. Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
