Dr. Renfeng Li’s lab at the University of Pittsburgh is offering postdoctoral positions to study the fascinating field of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and its interactions with host cells. EBV, known for causing conditions like infectious mononucleosis (also called "mono" or "kissing disease"), is a major factor in nasopharyngeal cancer, stomach cancer, and various lymphomas. Over 200,000 cancer cases worldwide each year are attributable to EBV. The presence of EBV in cancer cells presents a unique opportunity for targeted therapy, as it can be forced to reactivate.

Join the Li lab, where our focus is on unraveling the molecular mechanisms that control the transition of EBV from latency to reactivation. Our ultimate goal is to develop innovative therapeutic strategies to effectively treat EBV-associated cancers. Currently, our research explores how different restriction factors work together to limit viral replication, as well as how viruses employ cellular caspases and viral protein kinases to counteract these restrictions.

We are seeking applicants with a recent or soon-to-be-completed Doctoral Degree in virology, molecular biology, and/or immunology, along with a track record of publishing first-author papers. Competitive salary will be offered, following or exceeding NIH guidelines, based on experience.
