What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a E&O Test Engineer to operate as part of our dynamic team at the Advanced Materials Laboratory (AML), Department 1815, within the Materials, Physics, and Chemical Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories, (SNL). This position requires working with multiple organizations (SNL, University of New Mexico (UNM), and state and local government organizations), independent problem solving, as well as cooperative teamwork and communication with technical staff, technologists, post-docs, and students. The position is to manage operational activities of the AML R&D facility located at the UNM technical park located in Albuquerque, NM. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Act as work planner, waste manager, and technical work document owner for a large team owning numerous R&D and prototyping capabilities and labs. + Work with multiple hazard classes (e.g., chemical, electrical, mechanical) in the facility driving training requirements or particularly hazardous operations. + Perform testing used for qualification of facility processes or systems. + Perform database development, management with associated tracking software and tools. + Operate Forklifts and perform heavy move operations. + Work with cradle to grave hazardous waste management. + Prepare for major facility movement of equipment, materials, and activities to a new facility (CAMINO). + Perform basic lab and equipment maintenance. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: + Bachelor’s and Masters degree in a stem field or in lieu of the Masters degree 4 years of experience in a relevant field + Experience working with large and complex organizations or agencies (e.g. DOE, NNSA, local government) and associated regulatory standards + Experience with hazardous materials, including waste management from cradle to grave + Experience with common office software, such as the Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) + Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Commitment to laboratory and facility safety + Experience in performance testing used for qualification of facility processes or systems + Experience with document control and records management + Familiarity with New Mexico Environment Department, Department of Energy, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations associated with hazardous materials and waste + Experience with basic lab equipment, maintenance and pressure systems + Experience with multiple hazard classes (e.g., chemical, electrical, mechanical) and driving training requirements or particularly hazardous operations + Experience with Forklift operations and heavy equipment move operations + Experience with a broad range of materials characterization and mechanical testing techniques + A dedication to producing high-quality results using good laboratory techniques and focused attention to detail + Ability to rapidly learn new skills and work in a fast-paced environment + Excellent communication skills About Our Team: The Advanced Materials Laboratory Department, 1815, conducts research and development in a wide range of novel materials synthesis strategies and unique processing techniques to advance scientific understanding and provide practical solutions to the needs of a wide variety of Sandia customers and external entities. Specifically, activities in our research groups include; synthesizing new precursor chemistries and surface functional groups, understanding different routes to nano-scale particles and thin films, understanding the rheology of metal-particle inks and ceramic slurries, investigating new catalyst materials and conducting mechanistic studies of catalysis, and investigating the self-assembly of nanoparticles in 2- and 3-dimensions. Processing research and development includes providing a Direct Write capability that can deliver metal nanoparticle inks to topographically challenging substrates, electrospinning of fibers of vastly different compositions, and combining different materials and processing strategies to realize solar energy conversion, CO2 sequestration, and advanced medical treatments. Our customers include all of Sandia’s mission areas and numerous external collaborators. Our laboratory facilities are located at the Advanced Materials Laboratory, a leased facility on the campus of the University of New Mexico. This geographical advantage allows us to work closely with students and faculty at local high schools, community colleges and UNM, as well as universities throughout the United States. Additionally, we are able to collaborate with a variety of world-class scientists that may not be U.S. citizens. Security Clearance:
