Postdoctoral Appointee – Software Engineering
- Argonne National Laboratory
- Location: Lemont, USA
- Job Number: 7180956 (Ref #: 416546)
- Posting Date: 3 months ago
- Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
Job Description
The Structural Science group (SRS) in the X-ray Science Division (XSD) at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) operates five high-energy diffraction and total scattering beamlines, and has been developing both hardware and software to enable cutting edge research in the physical, chemical, environmental, and materials sciences.
We are looking for a postdoctoral appointee to help develop an autonomous pipeline for comprehensive reduction and analysis of serial 2D X-ray diffraction and scattering data. The pipeline is designed to perform on-the-fly image segmentation and analysis, detecting and characterizing interested events, providing preliminary interpretation that assist researchers in on-site decision making. The pipeline can significantly reduce human effort in the analysis of large volume of serial 2D data and avoid potential omissions or biases. The project will involve working with Argonne Leadership Computing Facility’s supercomputing resources. The appointee will work closely with scientists from the Computational X-ray Science group (CXS) and the Scientific Software Engineering & Data Management group (SDM) in developing and deploying the pipeline software. The appointee will also have the opportunity to pursue independent research related to X-ray diffraction, total scattering, and grazing incidence scattering. The position offers the option for remote work.
