Postdoctoral Appointee - Experimental Hadronic Physics
- Argonne National Laboratory
- Location: Lemont, USA
- Job Number: 7167184 (Ref #: 416405)
- Posting Date: 3 months ago
- Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
Job Description
We invite applications for up to three postdoc positions in experimental hadronic physics at Argonne National Laboratory. You will be part of our team working on physics and detector projects at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) and Jefferson Lab, with some flexibility to pursue your own research interests. We seek candidates with a background in experimental nuclear or high-energy physics or detector technology. The positions are for up to three years and offer a highly competitive salary. The review of applications will start on September 20th, 2023.
These positions will primarily focus on the ePIC Barrel Imaging Electromagnetic Calorimeter, the CLAS12-ALERT program (detector and analysis), TMDs with CLAS12, and/or development of the EIC scientific program. We appreciate experience in one or more of the following: calorimetry, detector development and simulations, PMTs or SiPMs, FPGAs, silicon sensors, or experimental data analysis related to hadronic physics.
Argonne National Laboratory, located near Chicago, is a large multidisciplinary science and engineering research center. We are the Medium Energy Group in the Physics Division focused on partonic physics in nucleons and nuclei within QCD. Our Team comprises eight staff members, two engineers, and postdocs and students. We have a broad-ranging program: electron-scattering experiments at Jefferson Lab in Hall A, B, and C (including CLAS12 and SoLID), SeaQuest and SpinQuest at Fermilab, and the MUSE experiment at PSI. We are leading three substantial hardware projects: the ALERT time-of-flight (ATOF) detector, the ePIC Barrel Imaging Calorimeter, and key components of the SoLID detector at Jefferson Lab. We actively explore innovative measurement techniques and novel technologies, such as superconducting nanowire detectors and pixelized 3D-printed MCP-PMTs, leveraging Argonne’s multidisciplinary nature.
To apply:
1. Submit application via Workday with a Postdoctoral profile
2. Follow up with your curriculum vitae and a short (about one page) research statement to Paulette Dahlberg (pdahlberg@anl.gov).
3. Arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to Paulette Dahlberg (pdahlberg@anl.gov).
Please note only applications submitted through Workday will be considered
Position Requirements
- Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle physics with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent (by the time of the appointment).
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: FPGAs, silicon sensors, calorimetry, detector simulations, PMTs or SiPMs, or experimental data analysis related to hadronic physics.
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
