Research Fellow in Process System Engineering
- University of Leeds
- Location: Leeds, United Kingdom
- Job Number: 7167169 (Ref #: EPSCH1088)
- Posting Date: Aug 25, 2023
Job Description
Are you an experienced and ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Are you looking to apply your modelling skills to the development of new approaches for sustainable chemical manufacturing, all the way up to production scale? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive Universities?
We are seeking a Research Fellow in Process System Engineering to develop and deliver a digital twin for computational chemical reaction optimisation and scale up. The digital twin will utilise reaction data (e.g., reaction rates, product yields, sensitivity analyses, etc.) obtained from automated small scale reactor platforms, and will simulate processes in large scale flow and batch reactors (macro scale) to identify optimum conditions in-silico. This will support the more sustainable synthesis of chemical products.
The overarching project follows an Industry 4.0 approach to revolutionise the transfer of a chemical process from laboratory to production scale, minimising the number of experiments and material used. You will work alongside chemists, chemical engineers and our academic and industrial partners who will provide reaction data and case studies for development of digital twin systems for in-silico process scale-up, as well as informing the wider context of the work.
The position will be based at the Institute of Process Research and Development (iPRD) at the University of Leeds as part of the “DigiScale” EPSRC project with additional support from University College London. The DigiScale project aims to develop control platforms and generate data for generation of digital twins. This position has an aligned experimental Research Fellow, who you will work alongside to deliver the data on which you will develop your modelling and algorithmic approaches.
