At Houston Methodist, the Postdoctoral Fellow position is responsible for performing basic research duties under the supervision/direction of a Physician (Principal Investigator). This position may work in a laboratory setting or may consist of computer work that supports the department’s research mission. The Weng Lab (https://weng.hmailabs.org/) is at the forefront of studying molecular mechanisms that underpin how different RNA modifications regulate endogenous RNA immunogenicity. Our investigations delve into how the deficiencies in RNA modifications can potentially induce an immunogenic transcriptome, subsequently triggering inflammatory responses and even cellular death. Specifically, our research aims to elucidate how Adenosine-to-Inosine (A-to-I) and N6-Methyladenosine (m6A) modifications work in unison to suppress endogenous RNA immunogenicity across various RNA classes. Utilizing tools such as genetic engineering, next-generation sequencing, and biochemical approaches, we seek to uncover the checkpoints of RNA modifications in inflammation regulation. The ultimate objective of our research is to leverage these findings to shed light on other inflammatory diseases, including autoimmune diseases, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer's disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders. We are currently seeking motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Fellows with a strong background in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, genomics, immunology, or a related field to join our team. Applicants with hands-on experience in gene editing, flow cytometry, and general molecular biology techniques are especially encouraged to apply. Our lab is deeply committed to the mentorship and long-term career success of all our members. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to acquire a broad and adaptable range of skills tailored to their specific research interests and career trajectories.
Desirable Qualifications: A proven track record of publishing academic research papers. Proficiency in molecular biology laboratory techniques and handling mammalian cell cultures. Interest in multi-omics profiling and bioinformatics. Experience in animal handling techniques.
