The Opportunity
- Do you have a PhD in applied mathematics, physical sciences, computer science and/or engineering?
- Contribute to solving challenges of national priority – revolutionising AI.
- Join CSIRO Data61 for this exciting 3-year postdoctoral role!
CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.
CSIRO’s Data61 team is seeking a CERC Fellow to join the Computational Modelling Group to work on projects in the AI4Design portfolio which combines AI methods with computational modelling to design new, bespoke manufacturing devices. The CERC Fellow will be required to undertake research and development of numerical methods and algorithms in the Lattice Boltzmann method for fluid flow under the supervision of Dr Gerald Pereira. Specifically, the successful candidate will focus on developing methods to model single phase flow, multiphase flow (involving gas-liquid, solid-liquid, or gas-liquid-solid systems), heat and/or mass transfer, complex fluid-structure interactions, and turbulence. The CERC Fellow will be proficient in writing scientific codes preferably in Fortran90 but also C or Matlab and familiar with Linux Operating systems and High-Performance Computing.
Your duties will include:
- Developing a good theoretical understanding of the Lattice Boltzmann method and apply this method to fluid flow applications such as flow through porous media, microfluidic flows, multiphase bubbly flows and heat/mass transfer.
- Developing accurate, efficient, and robust computer code that run on multi-core super-computers.
- Collaborating closely with experimentalists to improve and ensure the developed models are faithful models of reality.
- Carrying out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
Location: Clayton, VIC
Salary: AU$92k - AU$101k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Specified term of 3 years
Reference: 92952
To be considered you will need:
- A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as applied mathematics, physical sciences, computer science and/or engineering. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.
- Good theoretical understanding of computational fluid dynamics methods, numerical analysis, and extensive experience with development of algorithms for computer modelling.
- Demonstrated experience with software development using Fortran90 or later. Systematic validation techniques for computer codes (including debugging), using git-based repositories (e.g. Bitbucket, Github or Gitlab) for sharing and checking codes between team members.
- Experience with Linux Operating systems, High-Performance Computing and Scientific Visualization (such as Paraview, Avizo or Ovito).
