Job Description
The Human Dynamics Laboratory is located within the Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering & Computer Science, with world-class facilities, including a full motion capture laboratory with electromyography, vestibular nystagmography, inertial measurement units, force platforms, and advanced neurocognitive testing.
Recently, the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science (RSECS) moved into a new $63M building housing state-of-the-art research and instructional laboratories, classrooms, offices, and innovation spaces. The Ritchie School has research strengths in biomechanics, robotics, unmanned systems, advanced materials and structures, machine learning, controls, and sensor systems with support from industry and federal sources. Scientists in RSECS maintain extensive multidisciplinary collaborations.

Position Summary
An NIH-funded postdoctoral fellowship in motor control and cognitive assessment of sport-related concussion and traumatic brain injury across adolescents to professional athletes.
The successful candidate will lead experiments in biomechanics, vestibular-ocular control, and neurocognitive performance in the DU Human Dynamics Laboratory and interface with federal sponsors, graduate students, and faculty.
The position initially lasts one year and is renewable based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. The position’s start date is June 1, 2023.
Essential Functions
Conduct independent biomechanics-based research in motor control and human movement using in vivo laboratory measurements.
Human movement and eye tracking assessment across various ages and athletic experiences.
Lead and interface with multidisciplinary team from psychology, neurobiology, and athletics.
Applicants will also be considered for Research Scientist at the master’s level with sufficient applicable experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to problem solve.
Ability to prioritize and multitask.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong time management ability.
Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or rehabilitation medicine.
Experience with collection of in vivo laboratory measurements and related analysis.
Record of successful publication in a related field. Ability to collaboratively write conference and journal publications and interact with potential research sponsors.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience testing patients with concussion and traumatic brain injuries.
Knowledge of EMG, IMU, and other laboratory measurement tools.
Experience with statistics and data analysis software.
Working Environment
Standard office environment.
Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
Ability to sit or stand in front of a computer for an extended period.
Ability to assist research subjects in an active motion capture laboratory.
Occasionally required to move about the office/campus/laboratory with the capability of transporting objects up to 30 lbs.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $55,000-$62,000.
