Job Description
The Rau Lab (www.raulab.web.unc.edu) in the Computational Medicine Program at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is searching for a collaborative, eager Postdoctoral Fellow to study the role of multinucleated cardiomyocytes in heart failure using a spatial transcriptomics approach
Our team is broadly interested in the genetic basis of heart failure, with a hybrid dry/wet approach that blends classic and cutting-edge bench science techniques with new computational approaches. We utilize large panels of inbred mice to perform systems-level analyses. We have recently received funding to explore whether multinucleated cardiomyocytes are expressing distinct transcriptional profiles at each nucleus within a multinucleated cell. We are looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow interested in exploring this question through the lens of sub-cellular-resolution spatial transcriptomics (eg smFISH, merFISH, seqFISH) and who will drive research forward into independent lines of inquiry, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and interact with other members of the cardiovascular and systems genetics fields.

This position requires a Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biology or related field at the time of appointment. Highly motivated candidates interested in studying the genetics of cardiac physiology are encouraged to apply.
Successful applicants will:
• Have significant wet lab experience, ideally working with mice and immunofluorescence microscopy
• Have an interest in interacting with and collaborating with bioinformaticians before, during, and after experiments
• Have exposure to R and/or a willingness to learn
• Have exposure to genomic concepts and technologies such as GWAS, Next Generation Sequencing, Single Cell techniques, etc.
• Be collaborative, creative, and a team player
