The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University knows the demand is high for new and better treatments. The Vascular Biology Center is one of the most exciting research environments at Augusta University, offering many exciting opportunities for career development. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to develop new scientific projects, acquire new skills, write manuscripts, participate in seminars, journal clubs, and other academic activities. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow who is interested in CRISPR genome editing and studying phenotypes in mice and cardiovascular disease. This is a training position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific technical and administrative work in support of research efforts in an assigned laboratory or clinical research setting. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, clinical, statistical/computational and dissection procedures. The project will use mouse arteriovenous fistula and vein graft mouse models to study the vein remodeling involving epigenetic and transcriptome definition. The project requires very skilled surgical vein remodeling surgery, single cell and nuclei isolation, and tissue preparation for molecular and pathological characterization. Responsibilities include planning and performing experiments in a properly controlled and ethical manner, analyzing data, and interpreting data for presentation and publication. Candidate will have both independent and collaborative projects.
The duties include, but are not limited to: Experiments: Perform animal surgery, isolate tissue and cells for both molecular and pathological experiments; analyze and summarize data in a timely manner; present related literature; present data in meetings; draft manuscripts. Project Planning & Protocols: Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while insuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Scientific Literature & Meetings: Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally. Publications: Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; Review articles prepared by others. General Duties: Advise principal investigators, other PostDocs, students, and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures and other technological aspects of research activities. Technical: Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment. Other Duties: Perform all other related duties as assigned.
PhD, MD, or MD/PhD or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
Strong research background in mouse cardiovascular physiology/pathology or molecular biology or metabolic reprogramming using multiple experimental techniques including mouse surgery, primary cell culture, RNA analysis, performing mouse breeding, and routine experiments such as cloning, western blot, immunoprecipitation and immunohistochemistry analyses.

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
