Baylor College of Medicine is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral Associate to conduct original research in phage biology as it relates to new gene discovery and ending bacterial infections associated with drug-resistant bacteria. This is a moon-shot, high reward project using the latest computational and molecular approaches to identify genes from phages that confer novel modes of biological possibility. The ideal candidate will have substantial knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry, demonstrated success as a recent PhD graduate, creative out-of-the box thinking, and willingness to join and work with a large, highly collaborative research team exploring everything from phage therapeutics, small molecule drug discovery, and new vaccine paradigms to combat the growing antibiotic resistance problem. Job duties include:
The successful candidate will assist with project planning, data management, workflow design, and other tasks as needed, including data analysis and generation of status reports. Good communication skills are a must, with demonstrated independent thinking and problem-solving ability. Experience using databases is recommended.
- Generates new experimental paradigms; be able to design controlled experiments.
- Analyzes molecular data including computational tools associated with sequence information and protein antigen design.
- Maintains knowledge of the latest literature; participate in group meetings to discuss findings.
- Writes scientific manuscripts and grants.
- Presents one's research results and conferences.
- MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
- No experience required.
