Job Description
Do you have an interest in diagnostics applications? Would you like to be involved in a multidisciplinary project to develop a therapeutic drug monitoring sensor?
We are a multidisciplinary team of researchers focusing on the development of in vitro diagnostics assays and devices to combat the occurrence of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). One aspect we are focussing on is therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) – this can optimise antibiotic use which will help combat AMR, and will improve health outcomes. In therapeutic drug monitoring, antibiotic concentrations are measured in the body and the results used to guide dosing. This is currently being done for some antibiotics, but not for the most widely used beta-lactams, which includes penicillins and carbapenems due to the lack of suitable tests. We have recently developed an assay for the rapid, accurate and cheap measurement of carbapenems, which will enable routine use of therapeutic drug monitoring.
In this role, you will further develop this assay into a format which can be used at point of care, i.e. an assay format which requires a minimal number of steps and human intervention.
You will have a PhD in molecular biology or related discipline and a background in assay development, ideally in assay development for therapeutic drug monitoring, and assay validation in patient samples.
