What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Appointee to conduct experimental electrochemical materials science R&D for energy storage research, particularly in the fields of molten sodium batteries and/or flow batteries. You'll collaborate with accomplished scientists and use industry-leading equipment and facilities and gain compelling experiences in preparation for a career in this exciting area On any given day, you may be called on to: + Contribute to a multidisciplinary, materials-focused research effort + Assemble and test molten sodium batteries and/or flow batteries + Coordinate, perform, and/or analyze data from materials characterization + Publish innovative research in leading peer-reviewed technical journals + Present groundbreaking research at technical conferences Qualifications We Require: + Possess, or are pursuing, a PhD in a chemistry, materials, physics or engineering-related field + Laboratory experience in materials science, electrochemistry, chemical engineering, or similar field. + Able to acquire and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Experience with various electrochemical techniques (CV, EIS, GITT, galvanostatic cycling, etc.) + Strong background in electrochemical materials characterization, including battery testing and evaluation, ideally related to sodium, lithium, or similar batteries + Familiarity with flow batteries, their components, and cell assembly + Familiarity with materials characterization techniques, such as X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and electron microscopy + Experience developing new electrochemical test fixtures or apparatus to improve battery performance or elucidate materials limitations + Experience with molten materials (e.g. metals, salts) + Experience using and maintaining an inert atmosphere glove box + Ability to interact with team members of diverse technical backgrounds + Desire to conduct independent, focused research. + Candidates should be highly motivated, team-oriented individuals About Our Team: The Nanoscale Sciences Department conducts collaborative groundbreaking research to advance the understanding of materials at the nanoscale and enable the collaborative development of creative solutions for Sandia's broad and evolving National Security and Energy Missions. Security Clearance:
