Job Description
This unique position is funded for 3 years through a partnership with AstraZeneca (Gaithersburg, MD), where the candidate will be exposed to a dynamic cross-functional training environment. At UVA the candidate will have access to a broad range of population genetic and genomic datasets through large-scale consortia projects, high performance computing resources, and will be exposed to a stimulating, multi-disciplinary and inclusive environment in the Center for Public Health Genomics (CPHG). This work will involve close collaborations with AstraZeneca scientists to broaden training in both data science and translational cardiovascular fields.
Candidates must have a PhD in a life sciences or quantitative field (required in hand by appointment start date). Experience in statistics or genetics is desired, including proficiency in R, python (or other scripting languages). The successful candidate will also have a strong working knowledge of biomedical fields such as human genetics, molecular/cell biology, physiology etc. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as is the ability to work in a cross-functional team. As part of the AZ-UVA postdoc mentoring program, the candidate will be encouraged to generate impactful publications, present in national and international scientific meetings, as well as participate in AZ networking and career development events.
