Job Description
The Gaudet lab at Columbia University in New York City is recruiting a postdoc to investigate host defense against infection. We are a new lab that seeks to understand how human tissues coordinate with the immune system to defend against pathogens. These studies are critical to understanding the molecular basis of immunity at sites of infection and define the potentially devastating consequences of their failure during disease. The pathways we discover will support the design of next generation of antibiotics and vaccines that target specific organ systems rather than the immune system as a whole. We work with cell culture systems, animal models, and fresh human tissue samples obtained from organ donors as part of a novel initiative in Human Tissue Immunity and Disease. The candidate will employ the latest in single-cell "omics" technologies to conduct genetic screens designed to uncover the mechanisms that confer anti-pathogen resistance in vulnerable human tissues (e.g. gut, lung, skin). The candidate will have their choice of a variety of invasive bacterial, viral and parasitic microbes to use as infection models. We are particularly interested in those that are understudied and pose grave public health threats. See www.gaudetlab.org for more information.
