Post-Doctoral Fellowship - Clinical Neuropsychology
- Wellstar Health System
- Location: Marietta, GA
- Job Number: 7118115
- Posting Date: Dec 13, 2022
- Application Deadline: Dec 31, 2022
Job Description
Clinical Neuropsychology
We are members of the Association of Postdoctoral Programs in Clinical Neuropsychology (APPCN) and participate in the Match (http://www.natmatch.com/appcnmat/). Our goal is to provide 2 years of advanced training, consistent with the Houston Conference guidelines that prepares fellows for independent practice and board certification (ABPP). Consistent with this goal, our program is guided by ABPP competencies and mirror ABPP evaluative processes.
Our program is composed of 2 neuropsychology fellows (1st and 2nd year) and 8 clinical neuropsychologists (7 adult, 1 pediatric, and 4 of these support neurorehabilitation settings), including 4 board certified (ABPP-CN) providers, with more coming in the near future since ABPP certification is a Wellstar requirement.
Improving patient access is a welcome biproduct, but your training is our priority. You will enrich our environment and become a valued junior colleague as you pursue independent practice. We understand that fellows enter the program with strengths and weaknesses. An evolving, individualized training plan will be utilized to facilitate progression towards the goal of independent practice, as well as addressing unique growth goals of each resident.
We offer diverse assessment and intervention experiences (e.g., cognitive rehabilitation) across the lifespan, depending on interest and prior experience, though adult outpatient populations will be an emphasis given provider composition and specialization. Neurodegenerative processes (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinsonian conditions, Frontal Temporal Lobe dementias) will be a focus. You will also have an opportunity to work on the Kennestone Hospital Campus, within inpatient and outpatient neurorehabilitation settings. The primary population is stroke but also includes brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, and Parkinson’s disease among others. Working within multidisciplinary teams, you will provide bedside assessments, interventions, and education (team, patient, and caregiver). Additional potential experiences include Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) evaluations, bariatric surgery evaluations, and hospital consults, conducted for a variety of reasons including dementia vs delirium.
Didactic and teaching opportunities are offered through neuropsychology case conferences, neuroimaging seminar, professional development, diversity seminar, and grand rounds throughout the hospital system. Clinically oriented research or program development is expected (approximately 10% of time allotment).
