Job Description
Primary Care Behavioral Health Integration
The Wellstar Medical Group is accepting applications for a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship, in primary care psychology. This training opportunity will allow development of skills required for independent practice in the primary care setting.
Utilizing a Behavioral Health Consultant Model, primary responsibilities include administration of screenings, warm hand-offs, meet and greets, and brief interventions with patients across the lifespan. In addition to caring for patients with primary psychiatric conditions, the fellow delivers brief time-limited behavioral interventions to individuals with physical conditions (e.g., hypertension) that are responsive to psychological interventions, as well as patients struggling to modify health behaviors that impact quality of life. Didactic training is provided as well as two hours a week of one-on-one supervision, and rotations may be available based on interest in the following possible areas: Cardiovascular Behavioral Medicine, Metabolic Health/Bariatrics, and the Center for Best Health (Behavioral Modification).
The fellow will be able to learn strategies for program development as the primary care behavioral health integration program at Wellstar is experiencing significant growth. Opportunities for professional growth and development include building competency in supervision, evidenced based brief interventions applied in the primary care setting, and training in the core competencies required for board certification in clinical health psychology are core components of this training experience. The fellow will be prepared for independent practice and will have met licensure requirements in the state of Georgia at completion of the first year of the fellowship year.
Eligibility for this placement includes completion of Clinical or Counseling Psychology doctoral program from an APA accredited institution as well as completion of an APA accredited internship. Applications from candidates whose internship had a primary care behavioral health integration focus or family medicine residency are preferred.
