Job Description
The Clinical Health Psychology Residency is anchored in the biopsychosocial model and offers experiences in advanced multi-modality assessment (e.g., biofeedback combined with neuropsychological/psychological measures), pre-surgical evaluations (LVAD and bariatric candidacy), and health/behavior interventions. Major rotations are offered in Cardiovascular Behavioral Medicine and Obesity Medicine, offering rich experiences in working with patients with cardiovascular disease including congestive heart failure, obesity, and associated multi-morbidities. Additionally, minor rotations are possible in the areas of Medically Unexplained (or Functional) conditions, Metabolic Behavioral Medicine, Psychogastroenterology, and inpatient Consultation-Liaison Psychology.
We follow a scientist-practitioner model and offer opportunities in research. In addition to clinical and research experiences, you will have opportunities to provide education and possible supervision. You will present in our Clinical Health Psychology Forum and have the opportunity to work with psychometrists.
The position is estimated to be 80% practical, and 20% didactic/education. The practical hours include observation opportunities, evaluation work, and interventions. The didactic/education portion includes a variety of didactic presentations (e.g., bariatrics, cardiovascular behavioral medicine, psychogastroenterology, internal medicine grand rounds, medical ethics, etc.), EPPP study time, supervision, and possible research.
Our goal is to provide advanced training in the specialty of clinical health psychology that prepares residents for independent practice. We understand that residents enter the program with strengths and weaknesses. An evolving, individualized training plan will be utilized to facilitate progression towards the goal of independent practice, as well as addressing unique growth goals of each resident. Board certification is a condition of employment for Wellstar psychologists. To that end, we will structure our training to support your pursuit of this as well; we highly value the competencies identified by the ABPP. This is a full-time positions with a 2-year commitment.
