CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.
In this position you will undertake research in close collaboration with The Advanced Thin Films Group at UNSW (Kensington campus) to investigate the development of hybrid superconducting/photonic material systems and devices for quantum technology applications, including quantum cryptography and quantum communications.
Your duties will include:
- Synthesise superconducting and optical thin film materials using pulsed laser deposition and other deposition techniques.
- Work closely with collaborators to design, fabricate and characterise hybrid superconducting/photonic structures and devices.
- Recognise and exploit opportunities for innovation and the generation of new theoretical perspectives.
- Implement precise methodology to plan and prepare research proposals, and apply non-academic impact methodology to research projects.
Location: Lindfield, NSW and/or Kensington, NSW
Salary: AU$92k - AU$101k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
- A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as materials science, engineering, or physics. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.
- Experience synthesising and characterising device-quality epitaxial thin film materials using physical vapour deposition methods.
- Experimental expertise in one of the following: Superconductivity, complex oxide electronic materials, quantum optics, microelectronics, photonics, electro-optics, or related disciplines.
- High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including the presentation of research outcomes at national and international conferences.

Eligibility
Applications for this position are open to Australian/New Zealand Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents or Australian temporary residents currently residing in Australia and be able to commence in the role by 30 June 2023.
