The NeuroImmunity and Pathogenesis Laboratory led by Dr. Amanda Brown, PhD at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland is recruiting a well-trained, highly-motivated, postdoctoral fellow to lead innovative studies on the regulation of proinflammatory signaling in the central nervous system after systemic viral infection.
The lab’s last series of published findings show collectively that the human immunodeficiency virus’s invasion of the brain elicits a neuroprotective response. Interestingly, PET-neuroimaging in a model of HIV-infected humanized mice demonstrated microglia activation. In these same mice, a subset of dopaminergic neurons in the striatum also exhibited signs of a potentially activated state. These results suggest that neuronal-glial signaling is at play, however the molecular mechanisms are not known.
The laboratory uses primary human cell culture, modeling in humanized mice, sc-FISH, microscopy, neuroimaging, behavioral assays, established as well as the latest tools in molecular and systems biology to identify and interrogate cellular pathways. The desire to advance the training goals of the laboratory is an additional asset. Candidates with a background and/or substantive experience in molecular/cellular neuroscience, and mouse behavioral assays is preferred.

Terms of Appointment
The fellowship is guaranteed for one year with the expectation of a second year of funding, contingent on review. Applicants may not be employed by another institution and are expected to be in residence for the duration of the appointment.
