Job Description
A postdoctoral position is available to study iron metabolism and the role of iron toxicity in non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD). The scientific questions are centered on three: 1) how a Western-style diet causes aberrant iron metabolism by altering dietary iron absorption and intracellular iron partitioning in hepatocytes of fatty livers; 2) how iron is accumulated in the mitochondria of hepatocytes mediating hepatic ferroptosis; and 3) the precise mechanisms of ferroptosis-induced liver inflammation and fibrosis associated with NAFLD. The prospective candidate will have the opportunity to use conditional knockout mouse models, primary hepatocyte and Kupffer cell culture, state-of-the-art techniques including but not limited to transcriptomics, proteomics and lipidomics, and molecular/cell biology techniques. Potential candidates are expected to have previous experience working with experimental murine models and cultured cells, as well as using molecular and cellular research skills. Experience in studying liver diseases and/or iron metabolism is highly preferred. Candidates who are strongly self-motivated and obtained their PhD or MD/PhD within the last three years are encouraged to apply. Please send a brief cover letter and CV to Peijian He, PhD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Digestive Diseases, Emory University Department of Medicine at [email protected].
