Job Description
The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Systems Section of the Transportation and Power Systems Division at Argonne National Laboratory has immediate openings for postdoctoral fellows. The successful candidates will engage in programs involving expertise in thermal-hydraulics modeling, chemical reaction engineering, electrochemical systems, system analysis, and advanced energy conversion systems for stationary and transportation applications. The candidate will work in developing analytical techniques and software relevant to ongoing projects in fuel cells for heavy-duty applications; interpreting analytical and experimental results; relating them to physical phenomena and engineering; and preparing progress reports, participating in and making technical presentations to the technical community.
Position Requirements
PhD in chemical or mechanical engineering, or an associated field.
Knowledge of fuel cell performance, durability, components and systems.
Knowledge of chemical and thermal processes.
Knowledge of electrochemical systems.
Knowledge of analyses of components and energy conversion systems.
Knowledge of computational techniques and numerical methods.
Knowledge of computer simulation and data analysis.
Knowledge of C/C++ language and parallel programming with MPI. Considerable background in modeling of engineering systems.
Skills in using computer software such as COMSOL, StarCCM+, Matlab, Simulink, Python and Excel.
Skilled in oral and written communications and presentations at all levels of the organization.
A successful candidate must have the ability to model Argonne’s core values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with high performance computing (HPC) software platforms.
Ability to develop, optimize, test and run large-scale parallel applications on HPC systems.
Knowledge of image processing and statistical analysis of microscopy images.
Hands-on skills with X-ray computed tomography.
