Research Fellow in Sustainable and Resilient Food Systems
- University of Leeds
- Location: Leeds, United Kingdom
- Job Number: 7109449 (Ref #: ENVEE1593)
- Posting Date: Sep 1, 2022
Job Description
Are you an ambitious interdisciplinary sustainability scientist wanting to make a difference on sustainable and resilient food systems? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities? If so, this could be the opportunity for you.
You will join World-class researchers from Sheffield, Leeds, Bristol, Cambridge, Newcastle and City Universities working in partnership with stakeholders, who seek to transform the UK food system ‘from the ground up’ via an integrated programme of interdisciplinary research on ‘Healthy soil, Healthy food and Healthy people’ (H3). This is funded by the Transforming UK Food Systems UKRI Strategic Priorities Fund.
The H3 Consortium addresses the links between food production and consumption and takes an interdisciplinary approach. It will identify workable paths towards transformed UK food systems, delivered via a series of interventions: on farm, in food manufacturing, distribution and retail, and in terms of the health implications and inequalities associated with food consumption in UK homes and communities.
This post will be based in the Sustainability Research Institute, School of Earth and Environment and work with Co-Investigators Professor William Young and Professor Anne Tallontire along with Dr Gϋlbanu Kaptan and Dr Romain Crastes dit Sourd from Leeds University Business School. The Research Fellow will focus on deliverables for Work Package 6 on Resilience in Supply Chains which seeks to increase food system resilience in supply chains to economic, health and environmental shocks through collaborative research with retailers and consumers. The research will answer research questions on how can consumer food behaviours and retailer practices become more resilient and sustainable to disrupted food supplies. Could resilient approaches help alleviate the ‘business as usual’ reactions by retailers in resource stretched regions and consumer health? Which behaviour change ‘levers’ could help transition consumer food behaviours and retailer practices to more resilient approaches?
You will have a PhD (or close to completion) or relevant experience in Sustainability Science addressing food systems. You will have a strong desire to engage extensively with key stakeholders including consumers and food retailers.
