What Your Job Will Be Like: We are looking for innovators with a background in electromagnetics! Join our premier research and development group focused on increasing the resiliency of the electric grid and microelectronics to EM and EMP transients and insults through the development, execution, and analysis of advanced electromagnetic pulse tests. There are opportunities to aid in the qualification of components and systems in electromagnetic environments as well as opportunities to do first principles research, attend and present at conferences, publish research, and collaborate with the world’s experts in electromagnetics. Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to: + Creation and development of advanced technologies for investigating electromagnetic coupling and interactions with critical national infrastructures. + Use and development of electromagnetic diagnostics for characterization of electrical component reliability and safety. + Electromagnetic materials research, characterization, and development. + Supporting the design and evaluation of critical components and systems. + Assurance of safe and secure operations that are consistent with ES&H and security. Qualifications We Require: + PhD in electrical engineering, physics, materials science or a related field + Experience in the physical phenomena associated with electromagnetics + Experience in applied research + Experience publishing in conferences or journals Qualifications We Desire: + Five years or more of experience in experimental electromagnetics research + An understanding of fundamental electromagnetic topics such as electromagnetic coupling, wave propagation, microwave instrumentation and measurement principles, and electromagnetic compatibility + Familiarity with vector network analyzers and/or spectrum analyzers, antennas, and other traditional microwave equipment + Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the development and delivery of presentations, proposals and reports + Expertise with Matlab and/or Mathematica About Our Team: Department 1353 is a multidisciplinary research and development group supporting NNSA Defense and Work for Other (WFO) Programs. Our capabilities include experimental electromagnetics, the design and manufacturing of advanced power electronics, compact high current drivers, electron beam accelerators, x-ray sources, development and analysis of advanced materials and components, and plasma physics. Department 1353 employs a comprehensive research approach that includes analysis, simulation, and hardware verification.
