A Postdoctoral Fellow position is immediately availablein the laboratory of Dr. Ke Ma, Associate Professor, at the Diabetes and MetabolismResearch Institute within Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope, CA. TheMa lab applies state-of-the-art circadian biology, molecular and cellularbiology approaches to diabetes and obesity research, with a goal to unravelcircadian etiologies underlying the current epidemics of metabolic diseases fortargeted therapeutic interventions. We have a unique research program indeciphering the mechanistic underpinnings of circadian clock control inmetabolic tissue development, growth and functional capacity, specifically inskeletal muscle and adipose tissue.
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoralfellow with strong enthusiasm for metabolic disease or stem cell research to studymolecular signaling mechanisms underlying circadian clock function in skeletalmuscle and adipose tissue. Candidates with strong training in cell biology,molecular biology and biochemical techniques are preferred, and priorexperience with animal models is a plus. Utilizing biochemical and molecularbiology approaches combined with genetic animal models, specific researchdirections in the lab include: 1) genetic and epigenetic signaling networksmediating circadian clock nutrient-sensing function in adipose tissue andskeletal muscle; 2) circadian clock regulation of skeletal muscle growth and metabolism;and 3) novel signaling mechanisms in core circadian clock regulation.
Thecandidate should be self-motivated, with a proven track record of publicationsand strong interest to pursue metabolic disease research. Expertise in biochemistry,cell biology and animal physiology are preferred. Technical skills in metabolic,epigenetics and stem cell research are a plus.
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
- PhD in Molecular, Cellular or Developmental Biology.
- Proficiency with biochemical techniques, molecular biology skills and cell culture systems.
- Experience with in vivo animal model research preferred.
- Experience with epigenetics research and bioinformatics analysis a plus.
- Highly motivated with strong interest in metabolic disease research.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively in a team.
