Job DescriptionThe Kurdistani Laboratory at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking motivated postdoctoral fellows to pursue research on the newly discovered enzymatic activity of histone H3 in biology and disease (Attar et al. Science 2020). We employ a variety of model systems ranging from the budding yeast to embryonic stem cells as well as cancer cells to develop a mechanistic understanding of histone H3 copper reductase activity, and how alterations of this enzymatic activity may contribute to pathology of human diseases such as cancer and certain neurodegenerative disorders. Qualifications of suitable candidates include PhD, MD, or MD/PhD graduates with a strong background in molecular and/or cell biology. Candidates are expected to have expertise or some experience with molecular and cell biology, biochemistry and basic computational biology approaches. The ideal candidate would be highly motivated, excited about curiosity-driven research, and have clear and effective oral and written communication skills.
The laboratory is affiliated with the Department of Biological Chemistry, Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research, and the Molecular Biology Institute. We are a member of a highly interactive group of labs that are broadly interested in the biology genome, epigenome, and gene regulation. The intellectual environment is therefore superb with many opportunities for learning (e.g., journal clubs, seminars, weekly Departmental research meetings, etc.), collaborations, and cultivation of interest for a future career in academia or industry.
The appointment will be under the supervision of Professor Siavash Kurdistani in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. To apply, please email current curriculum vitae that includes names of three references and a statement of interest describing your reasons for seeking to join the lab to [email protected]
