Job DescriptionThe Ward lab in the Department of Geosciences at Princeton University is seeking a motivated postdoctoral or more senior research associate to explore the pathways and mechanisms of nitrogen transformations in marine systems (oxygen minimum zones, estuaries, coastal environment). This project seeks molecular and biochemical evidence to explain novel nitrogen transformations detected in seawater using metagenomics databases as well as targeted analysis of experimental samples. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility for renewal for an additional year contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding. The preferred start date is 1 March 2021, although this may be adjusted to a mutually-agreed date.
The successful applicant will join a diverse lab group in an intellectually broad department, with opportunities for collaboration with scientists working in many aspects of oceanography, climate and environmental sciences. The PI is committed to providing mentorship that facilitates diverse career options going forward. Opportunities for mentoring graduate and undergraduate student researchers are available.

Applicants must have a PhD in molecular microbiology/oceanography, bioinformatics, or a related field; peer-reviewed publications; and enthusiasm and drive for independent and collaborative research.
Strong candidates will also be creative and independent thinkers, have effective oral and written communication skills, and possess the ability to collaborate with and mentor a diversity of colleagues including graduate and undergraduate students.
