Job DescriptionBioinformatics/computational proteomics post-doctoral positions are available in the lab of Dr. Rovshan Sadygov at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the University of Texas Medical Branch (Galveston, TX).
The research projects focus on determining in vivo protein turnover rates from high throughput proteomics experiments using heavy water labeling time course data. We have developed closed-form equations to quantify label incorporation into peptides and mass isotopomer dynamics. The new model of isotope profile quantification allows the use of partial isotope profiles to extract the protein turnover rate from the deuterium incorporation. The methods are applied to study proteome dynamics in mouse liver. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in quantitative sciences; Experience in analytical and quantitative methods, including deterministic and stochastic techniques, probability theory, and signal processing; Proficiency (at least three years of coding experience) in a programming language (preferably C/C++) is required; Experience in statistical data analysis using R is highly desired. Excellent skills in communication, review of scientific literature, and scientific writing are desirable. Working knowledge of biology and experience in analyzing mass spectrometry data is expected.
A rich environment for computational science is available at UTMB, including joint affiliation with the Bioinformatics Program, the Gulf Coast Consortium in Bioinformatics, the Joint UTMB/UT-Houston Center in health informatics, and postgraduate education in computational biology.
Galveston is a subtropical island, conveniently located in the greater Houston metropolitan area.
If interested, please, send a CV, brief cover letter, and the names of three references to Dr. Rovshan G. Sadygov firstname.lastname@example.org.
