Job DescriptionResearch Fellow – Blood Vessel Tissue Engineering and Regeneration
University of Michigan
A postdoctoral fellow position is available in an interdisciplinary laboratory to develop gene delivering biomaterials for human vascular regeneration.
Research project: Proposed studies supported by NIH involve the synthesis and biological evaluation of new miRNA/plasmid delivering scaffolds to regenerate blood vessels for treatment of cardiovascular disease. Studies will involve polymer vector synthesis, polyplex preparation and characterization, microsphere synthesis for controlled release of polyplex, fabrication of gene delivering scaffolds using 3D printing technology, in vitro studies designed to determine the role of delivered miRNA/plasmid in fibroblast/SMC trans-differentiation, and in vitro and in vivo evaluations of engineered vascular scaffolds.
Duties: The successful candidate will work with other lab members and collaborators to conduct studies relevant to materials (polymer synthesis, polyplex preparation, and scaffold fabrication) proposed for the project. The candidate must be highly motivated with strong research capabilities and ability to design and carry out experiments with a high level of independence. This individual will also assist the PI in training new lab members, manage lab equipment and inventories, and write research manuscripts and documents.
Qualifications: The candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree in chemistry, materials science and engineering, biomedical and chemical engineering with experience relevant to the project. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required. A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals is desired. Research experience in animal surgery is encouraged, but not essential.
How to Apply
