Job DescriptionA postdoctoral position is available in the Flowers Laboratory within the UCSF School of Nursing. The focus of the research is the analysis of transcriptomic and related datasets to identify novel predictive biomarkers for type 2 diabetes and other complex diseases and explore potential underlying mechanisms and therapeutic targets. Evolving work will integrate behavioral data (e.g., continuous physical activity) with biological data for optimized risk prediction.
The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary translational research team to perform data analyses and support study implementation. The applicant will play a major role in drafting manuscripts and presenting results at professional meetings. Grant preparation and submission is an important aspect of the training, and in addition to supporting PI submissions, initiation of funding applications by the post-doc is expected.
We are seeking a candidate with a Ph.D., (or equivalent) with training in one or all of the following: clinical research, epidemiology, molecular biology, informatics. The ideal applicant will have experience in analysis of transcriptomic and epigenetic datasets and experience applying machine learning approaches to data analysis. Experience with statistical and/or computational methods for data analysis is required. Experience with clinical research on complex chronic diseases is preferred. Experience with computer programming and scripting skills is preferred.
This position requires a highly motivated and self-directed individual with excellent communication skills and a track record of first authored publications.
