What You'll Be Doing:
As a member of the Analytical Research and Development department, the postdoctoral fellow will work with a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary team of scientists utilizing state of the art instrumentation and equipment to develop and apply novel analytical methodologies that employ chemometrics, spectroscopy, and chemical imaging to drive the next generation of pharmaceutical process development. These analytical methodologies will focus on both cutting-edge data collection and data analysis strategies and will be applied to important pharmaceutical applications that include molecular and elemental mapping of complex, diverse materials, process analytical technology (PAT), advanced chemometric and multivariate data analysis, and high throughput experimentation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Design and perform hyperspectral imaging, including Raman imaging and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) imaging, in conjunction with multivariate analysis and chemometric methods.
Conduct online, in situ spectroscopy, including Raman spectroscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), coupled with multivariate data analysis.
Investigate biological crystallization events, synthetic organic reactions, and heterogenous chemical and biological transformations using online, in situ analytical tools.
Investigate diverse, complex heterogenous materials (proteins, enzymatic immobilization matrices, biological tissues, polymorphs, tablets, etc.) using elemental and chemical imaging tools. Analysis of resulting elemental and chemical imaging data sets using advanced, multivariate techniques.
Explore analytical methodologies, both data collection and data analysis, for new approaches to high throughput experimentation (i.e., reaction screening, protein engineering, biocatalysis, and metal analysis).
What You Bring:
Candidates must currently hold a PhD OR receive a PhD by June 2020.
Strong background in analytical chemistry and spectroscopy
Ability to design experiments, interpret and track results, and utilize this information to enable development of analytical methodology
Innovative, creative, and highly motivated
Track record of scientific contributions (including peer-reviewed manuscripts), and strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Thorough understanding of Raman spectroscopy, Raman hyperspectral imaging, and chemical imaging, including hands-on experience in the spatial and spectral investigation of chemical and/or biological materials
In-depth knowledge in laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and/or laser ablation, and their applications for elemental mapping and imaging
Expertise in chemometrics and multivariate data analysis, especially with a hands-on experience in analysis of chemical imaging data sets
Application of multivariate data analysis techniques, including principal component analysis (PCA) and multivariate curve resolution (MCR), for analysis of spectroscopic data
Understanding of both chemical imaging (i.e., Raman microscopy) and online, in situ data collection and data analysis strategies, with a focus on spectroscopic techniques with chemometric analysis
