Introduction of Donghua University and Department of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology
Donghua University (DHU) is a famous university and ranks into top 100 universities in China. It has about 30 thousands students. It has a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs across a vast field of disciplines including science, engineering, economics, management, laws, literature and arts, etc.
College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology is one of the big colleges in DHU. It owns Ph.D. programs of chemistry, including organic chemistry, chemical biology, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, etc.
The research fields of Professor Zhi-Long Chen and his group are: (1)The design, synthesis and biological evaluation of new drugs in photodynamic therapy and targeted photo-imaging diagnosis; (2) The design, synthesis and biological evaluation of new anti-tumor drugs and anti-hypertension drugs; (3) The separation and modification of natural products; etc.
Professor Zhi-Long Chen got his Bachelor Degree of pharmacy in 1991 and his PhD of Medicinal Chemistry in 1996 in Second Military Medicinal University, China. He once worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in 1997-1999 in Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science. He also worked in Central Queensland University, Australia (2002-2003); and in The University of Liverpool, England (2004-2005).
More than 70 his projects were founded by Chinese government. Three projects were founded by International Cooperation Grants between Chinese government and foreign governments. Three books and more than 260 papers were published. 80 patents were applied and 24 patents were authorized. Three new drugs were discovered and are under evaluation. As a main researcher one antitumor drug and one photodynamic drug were developed and used in clinics. The project entitled “Studies on the developments of new photodynamic drugs and photosensitizers, their mechanism and application in photodynamic therapy” was awarded by Chinese Pharmacy Association in 2013 and Shanghai Pharmacy Association in 2012. The research on the innovation, promotion and application of key technology of Photodynamic treatment of skin diseases won the third prize of Chinese medical science and technology in 2018.
8 Post doctors, more than 70 PhD students and Master students were trained under his supervision from 2005 to 2018.
