This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. : **Are you passionate about your work and want to utilize state-of-the-art facilities to explore solutions?** **Do you enjoy collaborating with dynamic, multidisciplinary research teams?** We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with a strong computational science background who will pursue research in methods for uncertainty quantification and predictive simulation, including probabilistic computational methods for sensitivity analysis, calibration, validation and optimal experimental design. On any given day, you will: + Contribute primarily to the development and application of uncertainty quantification and statistical modeling tools for highly complex climate models that are typically deployed at the Department of Energy’s Leadership Class supercomputing facilities; + Expand your research portfolio by developing and applying probabilistic computational methods in a range of applications that include, but are not limited to, biochemical models, stochastic dynamical systems, and complex networks; + Work under the mentorship of research staff and collaborate with other researchers at Sandia, other national laboratories, and in academia. Research programs are expected to result in major impact and recognition within the academic research community, as well as relevant contributions to the long-term energy and environmental mission objectives of the U.S. Department of Energy.
You have the following: + PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, or Mathematics + Expertise in statistical modeling and numerical methods + Experience in programming in C++/Python, HPC environments
You also have one, or more, of the following: + Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary research team + Expertise or knowledge of climate modeling is a plus
The Reacting Flow Research (8351) team focuses on experimental and computational modeling studies of reacting flow phenomena relevant to combustion processes.

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance. Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Furthermore, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base.
