This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. You could be the Postdoctoral Appointee the Nanostructure Physics department is looking for to work in the area of mechanical behavior, thermal stability, and radiation effects of nanostructured metals and alloys. You would work in a team of 6-8 researchers focusing on the basic science of deformation, fracture, fatigue, and related degradation mechanisms in thin film metals. While the position will be experimentally focused, you will collaborate strongly with materials modeling specialists at the atomistic and mesoscale. + PhD in materials science, mechanical engineering, or related field + Experimental laboratory experience including mechanical testing + Background in the mechanical behavior of metals and alloys + Experience with materials characterization and electron microscopy + Existing record of authorship of publications in the technical literature

Department 1881 – Nanostructure Physics – is one of two departments at Sandia that are a part of The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT). CINT is a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center operating as a national user facility devoted to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials. This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance. Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Furthermore, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base.
