This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Do you want to join a dynamic team that solves significant issues for our nation's security?** We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to lead and support developing novel autonomous behavior and control solutions for robotic, unmanned and mechatronic systems for national security applications. You will need to work as part of multidisciplinary teams doing cutting edge research and technology development to support our nation’s security needs. Your responsibilities will include developing and demonstrating novel algorithms for autonomous behaviors and for the control of a variety of mechatronic systems. You will conduct your work in a team environment devoted to developing and fielding novel robots and autonomous control systems. Your duties will include executing technical work with excellence and may include participating in the development of competitive funding proposals, and publishing results in peer reviewed journals.
+ You will bring a PhD in Electrical / Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or similar, focusing on algorithm development, perception, or control systems; degree will have been conferred within 5 years of beginning this assignment + Your experience includes developing algorithms with relevance to autonomous system behaviors, advanced perception, or control systems + You will have experience in developing software applications, particularly with a focus on implementation on hardware or realistic simulation platforms + You can obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Your background should include experience with: + Dynamic systems modeling and/or optimization + Machine learning and/or object classification / target recognition + Developing novel robotic or unmanned systems
The Robotics/Counter Robotics department specializes in autonomous operations of unmanned systems, advanced controls, miniature mechanical design and fabrication, advanced drive system development and cybernetic systems. Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance. Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
