Nature of Work
The Norman Lab in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, and Department of Immunology and Microbiology, at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow with a background in the variation of immunological responses that determine susceptibility and severity of infectious and autoimmune diseases (immunogenetics). Individuals from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply
The Norman Laboratory focuses on the study of natural variation in immune responses with respect to multiple aspects of human health and medicine. To support these efforts, a postdoctoral position is proposed to provide specific research expertise on the role of genetic diversity in determining immune function during infectious disease and autoimmunity. The major focus of this position will be on the role of NK cells/innate lymphocytes in the development and course of multiple sclerosis. The postdoctoral researcher will perform specific assigned research projects under the guidance and mentoring of the laboratory director, Dr. Paul Norman. The postdoctoral position will conduct specific research as assigned and assist other Norman lab staff as necessary based on expertise. The postdoctoral position will be responsible for analyzing project data, creating presentations and manuscripts for publication, assist in developing proposals for funding and participate in all lab related activities. This position will not be responsible for supervising lab staff.
The main research efforts in which the postdoctoral position will be responsible will be related to specific research developing, optimizing, validating and evaluating new laboratory assays and bioinformatics methods, as well as laboratory assays using cohorts of human specimens in support of sponsored studies within the Norman lab. The postdoctoral position will be required to attend all Norman lab related seminars and group meetings and attend DBMI and Immunology Department seminars and School of Medicine lectures/seminars as they pertain to the genetics and immunology of human disease.

Examples of Work Performed
The postdoctoral position will develop a research plan surrounding the development, optimization, and validation of protocols to measure human NK cell and/or T cell functions. The postdoctoral position will both analyze existing data to define and understand the immunology of multiple sclerosis as well as viral infections including EBV and SARS-CoV-2. They will generate new data as needed to test hypotheses so derived. Analyzed data will be used in the preparation of presentations and manuscripts. There is a strong emphasis on manuscript preparation. This position will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
Professional Field:
Human Immunology, Infectious Disease, Autoimmune Disease, Human Genetics. The position requires a PhD degree in biological sciences with experience in immunological assays with specific application towards immunogenetics of infectious disease and host-pathogen interactions.
