Job Description
Summary
The Garcia laboratory has NIH and Male Contraceptive Initiative support to identify novel male infertility associated genes through novel targeted and whole genome sequencing approaches of clinical samples obtained through the Scott Department of Urology, and to confirm the functional significance of these newly identified genes through phenotyping of, and molecular biology experiments with, novel KO mouse models. We are seeking highly skilled and motivated scientists with expertise in computational biology (ex. R and/or python coding) as well as background in molecular biology wet bench work.
Job Duties
- Writes manuscripts
- Directs and/or performs the isolation and QC of human DNA samples for sequencing
- Sets up sequencing reactions on nanopore platform
- Performs bioinformatics analysis of long-read sequencing data
- Performs phenotype analysis of novel KO mouse models
- Plans, directs and conducts research experiments
- Gathers, evaluates and analyzes data
- Develops research techniques and performs applications required for specific research projects
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study
- Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators
- Participates in management of human and animal protocols
Minimum Qualifications
- MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong computer science background or ability to rapidly acquire coding skills.
- Hands-on laboratory experience in wet bench work.
- Track record of quality publications and/or patents in these areas.
- Experience with performing innovative high-throughput sequencing-based studies.
