Job DescriptionPostdoctoral Scholar
The Department of Biobehavioral Health seeks a candidate for a One-year Postdoctoral position to work with Dr. Idan Shalev. The position would be available from June 1st, 2022 through May 31st 2023, although start date is flexible. Research in the lab focuses on identifying mechanisms underpinning the biological embedding of stress and its effect on biological aging across the lifespan. Technologies used in the lab include RNA and DNA isolation from human tissues, cell separation, telomere length analysis, gene expression, genotyping, epigenetic methylation and hormone assays.
The position is for a Postdoctoral Researcher to assist Dr. Idan Shalev with a funded NIH U01 grant, The Comparability and Reproducibility of Telomere Length Measurements for Population-Based Studies (U01 ES030949).
Responsibilities will include performing telomere length assessment via quantitative PCR, and contributing to data analysis, and manuscripts preparation.
The successful candidate will be part of the Telomere Research Network (TRN), a NIH and NIEHS sponsored network dedicated to advancing inter-disciplinary research on telomeres as sentinels of environmental exposure, psychosocial stress, and disease susceptibility (https://trn.tulane.edu/).
All candidates should have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to work with a team. The ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and attention to detail are essential.
Minimum requirements are at least three years of experience working in a wet-lab. Specific skills in macromolecular quantification via immunofluorescence and proficiency in telomere length assessment via quantitative PCR will be advantageous. Experience in statistical analysis of repeated-measure and nested designs is also preferred.
Applicants are required to have a PhD or equivalent doctoral in an appropriate field or be able to provide evidence that all requirements have been met for completion of the PhD prior to the effective date of hire.
To apply, upload a cover letter, C.V., NIH-style biosketch or equivalent, and the contact information for three professional references. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
