Job DescriptionThe Mathematics and Computer Science (MCS) Division at Argonne National Laboratory seeks multiple postdoctoral candidates to participate in projects of strategic national importance in quantum information science. Postdoctoral appointees will contribute to projects that design quantum compilers, develop new quantum algorithms, model the behavior of multiqubit systems, perform quantum network simulations, and develop quantum network protocols.
The postdoctoral appointees will join the MCS Division at Argonne that is a leader in many areas of quantum information science research, including development of full-stack quantum compilers, use of high-performance computing for simulations of quantum circuits and systems, and development of quantum network protocols. Quantum Information Science is one of the major initiatives at Argonne, encompassing broad research activities in quantum simulation, sensing, and networking. The laboratory is also a founding member of the Chicago Quantum Exchange, and the lead institution of Q‑NEXT, a National Quantum Information Science Research Center. These organizations encompass more than 100 quantum information science researchers and include collaborators from multiple national laboratories, universities, and quantum technology companies. Postdoctoral appointees will be fully integrated in this interdisciplinary research team.
Education and Experience Requirements
We require a recent or soon-to-be completed PhD in computing, engineering, physics, or a related discipline and interest in quantum information science. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: Development of quantum compilers or quantum algorithms; Development of quantum network protocols and use of FPGAs; Simulation of open quantum systems, noise characterization, or quantum error correction; High-performance computing or scientific computing; Large-scale code development in C, C++, Python, Go or a similar language.
Positions are available immediately as well as with start dates in 2022. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is not required.
