Research Fellow in Cementitious Materials Chemistry
- University of Leeds
- Location: Leeds, United Kingdom
- Job Number: 7079913 (Ref #: EPSCV1041)
- Posting Date: Jun 16, 2021
Are you a highly motivated and dedicated researcher in cementitious materials? Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge to study cementitious materials combining application of materials characterisation techniques and modelling approaches? Do you want to investigate the fundamental science underlying phase assemblage evolution of cements as a function of mix design?
As part of an exciting EPSRC fellowship research programme, MUSE, led by Professor Susan A. Bernal, you will evaluate non-Portland cementitious materials including alkali-activated, supersulfated and/or calcium sulfoaluminate type cements to determine the existing correlations between the properties of starting raw materials, composition of the cements produced, and the microstructural features controlling the type and amount of reactions products forming as a function of time. This will be achieved by applying state-of-the-art techniques such as synchrotron X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, along with spectroscopy techniques such as solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance.
Holding a first degree and doctoral degree (or close to completion) in Materials or Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or a closely allied discipline, you will have a strong background in alkali-activated and/or Portland cement materials chemistry, experience in advanced characterisation of Portland and/or non-Portland cements, and a good understanding of the interrelationships between chemistry of the cements evaluated, phase assemblage and pore structure development. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be willing to collaborate with a vibrant and dynamic team of researchers across different Schools at University of Leeds, and different partner Universities within the UK and abroad.
