Job DescriptionDr. Rachel Margolis, Department of Sociology at the University of Western Ontario and Dr. Ashton Verdery, Department of Sociology and Criminology at the Pennsylvania State University invite applications for a postdoctoral scholar in Sociology and Demography. The position will be funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (Principal Investigator, Rachel Margolis) and the U.S. National Institute of Aging (Principal Investigator, Ashton Verdery). The successful candidate will collaborate with Dr. Margolis, Dr. Verdery and other colleagues on research related to patterns of family structure and population health in aging populations around the world.
The position start date is flexible but is expected to begin between March 1, 2021 and September 1, 2021. The initial duration is one year, with the possibility of extension of up to 2 additional years. The position is full-time and provides an annual salary of $45,000 CAD plus benefits. Note that the position is open to scholars from any country. The position will be based in London, Ontario, Canada but applicants who wish to work remotely for much of the time will be considered. This position requires a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by the position start-date. A background in demography, sociology, gerontology, public policy, or health sciences is preferred. We are especially interested in candidates who are strong writers and have expertise in survey methodology and data analysis, with proficiency in Stata and/or R. Experience working with a research team and knowledge of advanced demographic techniques is desired. We seek a candidate who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, responsible, team-oriented, and creative, with excellent interpersonal, written communication, and organizational skills.
