Job Description
Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Telomere Formation and DNA Damage Checkpoint Activation
An immediate opening for an NSF-funded Postdoctoral position to study telomere formation and DNA damage checkpoint suppression in fission yeast is available in the Runge lab at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute. Our lab uses a combination of molecular genetics, in vivo proximity labeling, proteomics and molecular biology to identify factors and pathways that distinguish telomeres from DNA double-strand breaks. Individuals with experience in yeast and a strong background in molecular biology, genetics, and/or biochemistry are encouraged to apply.
Our lab developed a novel, rapidly inducible telomere formation system in the Schizosaccharomyces pombe. We have used it to monitor the kinetics of telomere formation and the accompanying chromatin modifications (e.g. PubMed ID: 29784772). We are combining this approach with our successful adaptation of proximity labeling for fission yeast to monitor the protein environment at the forming the telomere. This project provide a launching point for multiple new research directions in a system with strong similarities to human cells.
This project utilizes the state-of-the-art core facilities at the Cleveland Clinic and nearby Case Western Reserve University, and the active research communities in the Cleveland area. Additional information about postdoctoral training at the Lerner Research Institute is available through links at www.lerner.ccf.org/education/postdoc/.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. with relevant laboratory experience and proficiency in written and spoken English. To apply, please email a cover letter, CV, and contact information for 3 references to: Kurt Runge, Ph.D.; rungek@ccf.org; Department of Inflammation & Immunity.
