Job DescriptionWe are seeking a POSTDOCTORAL APPOINTEE to join our multifaceted research team to work in Mechanical Transduction. If you have experience in this field, please apply. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Perform ground breaking research in novel mechanical transduction technologies for sensing, communication, power transmission, and other national security applications. + Design, simulate, fabricate, and/or characterize novel devices, materials, and systems + Study new physics phenomenon, evaluate and apply new concepts, and build first-time demonstrations + Report research results in top-tier journals and conferences + Generate new intellectual property through patent filing
+ Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or other related technical areas, conferred within one to five years prior to employment + Experimental measurement experience, including expertise in instrumentations and techniques for mechanical characterization + Experience in finite element method tools, such as COMSOL, Matlab/Simulink, or similar packages + Ability to perform original research, proven through a record of invention, original publication in top-tier journals, and conference papers and presentations + Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance.
Ideally, we would like to see some of the following experience in your background: + Experience in the design and simulation of mechanical metamaterials, phononic crystals, novel mechanical structures and material with commercial and custom codes + Experience in calculating dispersion diagrams and wave propagation in complex media + Expertise mechanical wave damping + Expertise in Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) and Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) modeling and measurements + Familiar with a wide range of materials including plastic, metallic, piezoelectric, and magnetic materials, as well as manufacturing techniques + Experience in KHz-MHz mechanical test and characterization techniques (such as laser vibrometry), associated instrumentation, detectors, and spectroscopies + Knowledge of mechanical non-destructive evaluation techniques + Familiar with numerical techniques for optimization and sensitivity analysis and Solid state physics and phenomena + Self-motivated, with strong communications skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
